Smart phones, shopping drive digital economy: "Australia's digital economy grew significantly in 2011-12 with online shopping, social networking sites and a near doubling of smart phone ownership helping drive the boom.

Online shopping activities grew 27 per cent in the 12 months to July 12, according to a new report by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

There are now 11.36 million Facebook users in Australia, 9.67 million YouTube users and, in the 12 months to July 2012, 12.27 million people accessed online news sites."

Positive signs for Australia’s digital economy: "Australia’s digital economy continues to grow at a rapid rate, according to research released today by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).
ACMA has released a major report, “Australia’s progress in the digital economy: Participation, trust and confidence.” It says Australians are deriving real benefits from going online, with nearly three-quarters of adults believing the Internet has improved their daily lives and one third of Australians aged 14 years and older accessing the Internet via their mobile phone—a 52% increase in the 12 months to June 2012."

FORTY-FIVE thousand addresses in South Australia will have access to the National Broadband Network by the end of this year, putting the massive $36 billion project on track to meet its 758,000 premises target nationally in 2012, the Federal Government will reveal today.
Take-up rates in one of the first sites to be rolled out - Willunga, to Adelaide's south - are also the second-highest in the country with four in 10 homes, or 41 per cent, electing to use the high-speed internet facility.
